Starting situation is a deep caries in the crown (1). An infected root-canal system (2) as well as an inflammation in the bone (3) result.
After a clinical examination of the tooth, diagnostic x-rays are taken, the tooth is administered local anesthetics and then perfectly isolated with a rubber dam.

After the removal of the caries and build-up of the defect an access cavity to the root canals through the tooth’s crown is prepared. With very fine and flexible instruments as well as special irrigating solutions, the root canal system is cleaned meticulously and shaped. |

The root canal system is now three-dimensionally filled tightly in its whole complexity. Guttapercha in combination with an adhesive cement is used. The tooth is treated with a temporary build-up filling until the following restorative treatment. |

After the root canal treatment the bone needs about 6-12 months to regenerate. Then in the majority of all cases, no more focuses are detectable (6).
